Flyland in a Room is a short version of the touching Flyland, a vulnerable duet about the experience of the sometimes-harsh reality. It is a story about love, emotion and the very thin line between fantasy and reality.

A story about two dancers who, after ending their relationship, see the world crumble beneath their feet. Tumbling past clouds and dreamscapes, they realise that they have in fact entered the conversation they have been putting off for so long. Though it appears to be a freefall, just before they hit the ground they gain control and instead start to fly.

The world the dancers enter symbolizes an alternative version of reality. The question that Middendorp examines with this is in what ways that alternate version of reality is less ‘real’ than the world we know and live in. In Flyland, he explores and pushes the borders of reality, with the help of a dreamy video projection and brings an emotional fantasy to life.
