Blue Journey tells the story of a girl, struggling with herself and the world around her. Her blue shadow makes her realise she is a fundamentally different being, but how should she deal with this confusing question of identity? Blue Journey lets you experience this search for identity.
It is a visual experience that celebrates being different. Dreamy projections of animations and pre-recorded shadows form the background of the choreography; creating a surrealist world where fantasy and reality magically overlap. A true ode to anyone and everyone who dares to think and be different!
The choreography for Blue Journey was made in 2008 for Introdans. Since then, it has travelled the world. In 2014, Middendorp adapted this piece for the well-known tv programme ‘America’s Got Talent’. Through his originality as a choreographer and storyteller he reached the programme’s semi-finals. Jury member Howard Stern was full of praise and said: “I believe we have been Middendorfed. It is the best dance ever in the show.” Middendorfed. It is the best dance ever in the show.”
