Petty Thief (Kruimeldief) is a short narrative choreography about a man who, after losing his wife, thinks to have found true love with a robot. This proves to be an illusion; the robot runs off with a vacuum cleaner.

In this piece, animation (the dust buster), mechanics (the robot), and reality (the dancer) form an interesting interplay. Kruimeldief is a true work in progress, and is made especially for young audiences.

Kruimeldief was performed by Yutaka Nakata at Ballet Theatre München in 2007.

"To his dismay, however, the robot runs off with a vacuum cleaner inhabiting an animation film, and the confusion is complete when the protagonists of his love triangle find themselves constantly jumping into and out of the animation, and into and out of reality. It was just precious to watch!’"
